Many plants that can be used to alleviate diseases can often be easily planted in your own garden or on the balcony as natural home remedies. The healing properties of sage, chamomile or peppermint are known. Others, such as nettle, are considered weeds.

Medicinal plant of the year
Naturopathic methods have been on the upward trend for years. More and more patients and doctors also rely on medicinal plants such as ginger, cloves or cinnamon. However, it should not be overlooked that it is not only exotic plants that are suitable for the treatment of various diseases, but also that many medicinal herbs grow in the local area. Although some of them originally come from other parts of the world, they have also become widespread here after centuries or thousands. Anise, for example, comes from Asia and the eastern Mediterranean countries and was chosen as the medicinal plant of 2014 thanks to the wide range of healing effects.

Plants from the European region
"A person heals best from what comes from the same earth," is a principle of folk medicine. That is why plants from the European region are used in Western herbal medicine to support the people who live here for example, as a tea or applied externally in the form of an ointment.

Herrgottsblut brings sun to life
A plant that not only grows here, but is also particularly well suited to helping people in this country is St. John's wort, popularly also called Herrgottsblut. Because hardly any other plant is associated with the sun as much as the plant, which is used as a herbal medicine for the treatment of mild to moderate depressive moods or inner unrest. St. John's wort can bring warming sun rays into depressed minds.

From your own garden
Native plants have other advantages. So you can grow them in your own garden or on the balcony and can be sure that no dangerous chemicals are used. Some of the plants, like the nettle, grow wild almost everywhere and are considered weeds. Most of the crops that you have to sow or plant yourself are usually easy to grow. Here are some examples:

valerian
Even if this makes cats really euphoric, valerian has a calming effect on humans. In studies, valerian showed similar effects to the sleeping and sedative oxazepan, but with significantly fewer side effects and is used as tea, tincture or powder.

Wild garlic
Bear garlic, which is strongly reminiscent of garlic, is a delicious and healthy ingredient in herb quark, for example. Bear's garlic not only promotes digestion, but can also prevent arteriosclerosis and lower blood pressure.

Nettle

elder
Elderberry is also rich in vitamin C and also contains the B vitamin niacin and diaphoretic glycosides. The flowers of the elder are used, for example, as tea for sweating cures for fever and colds. The plant can also be enjoyed as a juice and recently you can find it in many refreshing drinks.

chamomile
Everyone in Germany knows the smell of chamomile. Even if the plant is found less and less in the wild, in the form of tea, chamomile is still considered a universal remedy. This can relieve inflammation and cramps of all kinds. Breathing and digestion problems are also treated with the plant.

Melissa
Since it smells slightly lemon-like when grated, it is also called lemon balm. The lemon balm in tea form is mainly used against nervous heart problems, sleep disorders, irritability and other nerve-related complaints. In oil form, lemon balm has an antispasmodic and relaxing effect and can inhibit the growth of viruses and fungi.

peppermint
Menthol is the main active ingredient in peppermint. The plant has an antispasmodic effect and is mostly used as a tea for stomach irritation and for intestinal and menstrual problems. When used externally, it can relieve headaches. Other types of mint, such as water mint, have very similar effects.

sage
Everyone is talking about sage, as tea, in sweets or as an ingredient in delicious pasta sauces. For sore throats and sore throats of all kinds, sage is the plant of choice. It has an antiperspirant, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory effect. Because sage has so many healing effects, it is sometimes referred to as a panacea.
